The Battalion Commander Deceived the Parents of a Fallen Soldier and Embezzled 1.5 Million Armenian Drams
The Investigative Unit of the Hrazdan Police Department is preparing materials regarding a case of fraud that occurred in the Kotayk region. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamsyan, on January 13, the Hrazdan Police received a call from a 52-year-old resident of Kotayk, A.M., who reported that his son had served in the battalion in Mehakavan, Artsakh Republic, known to the public as the Jabrail battalion, and had not been heard from since October 1 of last year.
According to Shamsyan's information, Hrazdan police established that one of the commanders in the mentioned battalion had taken 1.5 million drams from A.M. through his wife, supposedly for the treatment of the soldier. The Hrazdan police discovered that during the military operations, A.M. had no news about his son, and after some time, his wife clarified from somewhere that their son was in captivity. She had also found someone named Harut, who claimed to be a serviceman from the battalion and promised to return their soldier son home in exchange for money.
Through deception and abuse of the trust of the soldier's parents, he managed to acquire 1.5 million drams transferred by them using a terminal over two months. According to Gagik Shamsyan, on January 13, the parents learned that their son had fallen. The Kotayk regional police are conducting necessary operational-search measures to locate the fraudster who deceived the soldier's parents and extorted money from them.
