The Number One Beneficiary of the Unblocking is Armenia, It Will Bring Economic Development to Our Country: MP from the 'My Step' Faction

It is important that the Russian Federation is aligned with us on the issue of prisoners, and there was a clear emphasis on the 8th point, the process is taking place, but we have not yet reached final results. This was stated today by Victor Yengibaryan, an MP from the 'My Step' faction, during a broadcast on Public Television, addressing the issue of the return of prisoners.

“It has been emphasized that this is a crucial question for us, and we hope that they will take that step soon, and we will not create obstacles on our end, with the intention to continue the statement. The unblocking process cannot happen with mutually aggressive rhetoric or the presence of prisoners. We hope that the issue of prisoners will be resolved; we know that the head of the NSS also met with his counterpart there, so everything is being done on our part,” he noted.

According to Yengibaryan, Armenia is currently blocked, which means that all regional megaprojects bypass Armenia, and he believes that this also contributes to poverty and emigration in our country. “Azerbaijan has conducted a policy of exhaustion over these thirty years, closing borders to prevent Armenia from developing. This has led to the current situation, and now, when the unblocking is coming to an end, in my opinion, the number one beneficiary is the Republic of Armenia; it will bring economic development to our country. This economic development should contribute to lasting peace,” he said.

When asked if the unblocking sounds appealing but poses the risk of opening the Turkish-Azerbaijani dream of establishing communication through Meghri, and what we would gain in return, Yengibaryan responded: “For our economy, the guarantees of peace have always been important regarding the Turkish border. If we have a railway connecting Iran-Nakhichevan-Ararat region-Azerbaijan-Russia and on the other side Azerbaijan-Armenia-Nakhichevan-Turkey, it will give us the opportunity in the future to have rail transport with the European economic environment, since Turkey is a member of the European Customs Union, and this will be extremely important for our entrepreneurs, but it is too early to talk about all of this.”
