Investigation into the Death of Former NSS Director Georgi Kutoyan Suspended
The criminal investigation into the death of former Director of the National Security Service (NSS) Georgi Kutoyan has been suspended.
Rima Yeganyan, the head of the NSS's press office, told NEWS.am that the investigation was suspended on December 30 under Article 31, Part 1, Clause 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia (as the identity of the person to be involved in the case as a defendant remains unknown).
It should be noted that on January 17 of last year, the body of former NSS Director Georgi Kutoyan was discovered in one of the apartments on Paruyr Sevak Street in Yerevan, with a gunshot wound. A criminal case was launched under Article 110 of the Armenian Criminal Code regarding incitement to suicide.
According to earlier information released by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, prior to the incident, Kutoyan had fired 35 random shots from his own pistol into the partition wall between the living room and kitchen in late December 2019.
Haik Gevorgyan, the head of the Investigative Committee, also stated in a conversation with reporters that Kutoyan’s suicide was committed for personal motives.
