51-Year-Old Man Assaults Sister with an Iron, Inflicting Life-Threatening Injuries

The preliminary investigation into a criminal case regarding the severe injury inflicted on a sister by her brother with particular cruelty and intent has been completed at the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

As a result of investigative and other procedural actions, the circumstances of the incident and its motives have been clarified. Evidence collected during the investigation indicates that a 51-year-old man, a resident of Yerevan, has repeatedly committed acts of violence against his sister for various reasons and had disagreements with her over monetary issues, which led to periodic conflicts between them.

Specifically, it was found that the man sold their inherited house in Yerevan, which belonged to both him and his sister, for $38,000. Of this amount, he transferred $35,000 to a bank account opened in his sister's name, from which she later handed him $25,000 in cash. She also allowed him to build a house on a plot of land next to hers in the village of Teghenik in the Kotayk region, provided that he would change his ways, stop consuming alcohol, and live a normal life.

However, after some time, the brother began demanding the remaining $10,000 from the sale of the house and also the house in Teghenik, which belonged to the sister. This request was denied by her, leading to a long-standing dispute between them.

On the day of the incident, October 1, 2020, during a period of strained relations, at around 00:20, the brother visited his sister and demanded the aforementioned $10,000. After being denied once again, he argued with her during which, intending to torture and inflict bodily harm with particular cruelty, he struck her on the head with an iron, breaking her arm in the process. As a result, she fell, and the brother squeezed her broken arm, then threatened to cut out her eyes and ears with scissors. He continued to inflict numerous blows with his feet and hands to various parts of her body, thereby causing life-threatening severe injuries to her health.

Based on the sufficient combination of evidence collected, the 51-year-old man has been charged under Part 2, Clause 4 of Article 112 of the RA Criminal Code (deliberate infliction of severe bodily harm). A signature not to leave the country has been applied as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
