Tragic Incident in Echmiadzin: Husband Dies in Apartment Fire, Wife Hospitalized

Today, January 11, a brutal and tragic incident occurred in the Armavir region. At approximately 02:30, the Emergency Situations Ministry's rescue service in Vagharshapat received a report from the local police about a fire in apartment 22 at 1 Nar-Dos street, where deceased and injured individuals were found.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Vagharshapat police department arrived at the scene and established that the fire broke out under yet-to-be-determined circumstances in the bedroom of the mentioned apartment around 02:20. As a result, 86-year-old Gevorg Mamikonyan was found dead in bed, while his 84-year-old wife, Svetlana Khachatryan, was diagnosed with "smoke poisoning" and transported to the Vagharshapat medical center.

The firefighters, who arrived with two fire engines, first prevented the spread of the fire and then extinguished it. According to G. Shamshyan's information, the deceased and the hospitalized individual are spouses.
