Arsen Torosyan, the Minister of Health of Armenia, has delivered a New Year message stating:

“This year’s New Year message will significantly differ from previous ones. The year was heavy for all of us from every perspective. We witnessed both a state of emergency and martial law.

The year was particularly tough for the healthcare system and medical workers. One of the 'surprises' was the coronavirus, which posed a serious challenge not only for the entire world but also for Armenia.

Next came the war, which shook us all, and healthcare workers began to fight on two fronts: saving lives and maintaining the health of our compatriots.

The third direction continues to be the cases requiring immediate medical assistance, which, regardless of everything, needed to be addressed.

For 365 days, everything possible has been done so that all patients in need of medical assistance can receive their accessible treatment.

Medical centers have been re-equipped and re-profiled. In emergency situations, needs have been quickly assessed, and urgent solutions have been provided. However, all of this would not have been possible, and it would lack value if the medical community had not united as one.

I am thankful to everyone. Looking back at 2020, I again realize that you, doctors, epidemiologists, nurses, caregivers, drivers, and volunteers, have achieved the impossible on the path to making the possible a reality.

I also thank the staff of the Ministry of Health and subordinate bodies for their tireless work and personal dedication during those difficult days.

I wish that the coming year be a year of peace, bringing tranquility and harmony into our lives. To healthcare workers, I wish strength and enthusiasm to continue fulfilling your professional mission with honor.”
