The Armenian Government Will No Longer Receive Support from the Armenian Cause Office in Washington, Says Suren Sargsyan
Political scientist Suren Sargsyan writes:
“It is at least naïve to think that the Biden administration will come in and abandon its priorities to provide financial assistance to Armenia. They themselves are in a serious crisis and need funds too.
1. First, the budget for next year is built on Trump’s budget, which allocates $16.6 million to Armenia.
2. Yes, it cannot be ruled out that additional aid may be provided to Armenia, for example, to combat Covid-19, as has been done this year for hundreds of countries.
3. The Armenian Cause office has announced that it is working to increase the volume of assistance provided to Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia. It is possible that we may receive some humanitarian support in the post-war phase. But this strictly pertains to the work of the Armenian Cause, not to the attitude towards our government. It is clear that this will be the result of their work, and not an expression of Biden’s 'love' for our authorities.
4. Let us not forget that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation is demanding the resignation of the government, which means that the Armenian government will no longer receive anything from the Armenian Cause office in Washington, with all the resulting consequences.
5. We should also not forget that Armenian-American relations are at a historically low level.
Let me reiterate: Washington’s attitude towards Yerevan may change, but its policy will not.”
