Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan Electric Train Collides with Vehicle on Tracks

On December 27, around 17:00, the Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan electric train collided with a vehicle that was found on the tracks in the Ani-Aghin section. This information was reported by the press service of South Caucasus Railway.

As a result of the traffic accident, the train arrived in Gyumri one hour late, and the South Caucasus Railway company has apologized to its passengers. The collision occurred due to the appearance of a BMW X5 in the self-regulating railway network. The driver was unharmed and accepted responsibility for violating traffic regulations, suffering significant material damage.

In 2020, the number of external influences on the railway (traffic accidents, falling of foreign objects, and grazing of livestock) increased to 39 cases compared to 33 recorded in 2019. The number of collisions between railway rolling stock and motor vehicles decreased from 23 cases to 12 cases.

The South Caucasus Railway once again urges drivers to be vigilant when crossing railway lines and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to protect their health, life, and property. This is especially important during the upcoming holiday days under adverse weather conditions,” the statement from the South Caucasus Railway reads.
