Why Government and Pro-Government Circles Have Launched a Campaign Against the Ombudsman

Recently, government and certain "pro-government" circles have been persistently targeting Armenia's Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan and attempting to discredit him. However, many believe that the only constitutional institution that has fully and professionally operated throughout the war (and even before) and in the post-war period is the Human Rights Defender's office.

Yet this very fact seems to irritate Nikol Pashinyan, whose allies have begun a campaign against Tatoyan. It's worth noting that this isn't new. Back in May, we reported that according to reliable information from the newspaper, the authorities were actively discussing the issue of "replacing" the Ombudsman with someone more favorable.

Rumors circulating in the corridors suggest that after "solving the crisis" at the Constitutional Court, Pashinyan wanted to move on to addressing the Ombudsman. However, circumstances have since changed. Now, it seems that the authorities' "appetite" has reopened in this regard.
