France: Stay in the Minsk Group? Macron Expresses Confusion Over Pashinyan's Personality and Behavior
Just days after signing the capitulation on November 9, French President Emmanuel Macron attended a dinner with representatives of the Armenian community, where a remarkable conversation took place. Macron sought the opinion of the French Armenians regarding Nikol Pashinyan, listened attentively, and expressed his confusion about Pashinyan's personality and behavior.
He stated that during the war, he reached out to Pashinyan multiple times, offering his support, even sending text messages. Although Pashinyan responded quickly, he never initiated contact with Macron or made any requests.
Moreover, Macron was particularly surprised that neither before nor after signing the November 9 document did Pashinyan communicate or inform him about the pressures he faced to sign such a document or what could be done afterward to mitigate the consequences.
Macron remarked, 'After all, I am the president of a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group; why didn't he inform me or seek support before or after signing?'
He also inquired how France should position itself—whether to remain in the Minsk Group and continue supporting the negotiation process or to advance the recognition of Artsakh by stepping out of the Minsk Group. It seems these questions should have been addressed through state diplomacy, rather than in discussions with the community,
