Moscow and Minsk Reach Agreement on Gas Pricing
The head of the Russian company Gazprom, Alexey Miller, and the Energy Minister of Belarus, Viktor Karankevich, have reached an agreement regarding the pricing of Russian gas to be supplied in 2021. According to RIA Novosti, citing the company's press service, the parties signed the relevant protocol in Saint Petersburg. The Ambassador of Belarus to Russia, Vladimir Semashko, was also present at the meeting.
It is noted that the company did not disclose the price of gas supply in its announcement. The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Energy, in turn, reported that the price "virtually remains at the 2020 level, but is significantly lower than stipulated by the 2011 intergovernmental agreement." According to the existing contract, the price of Russian gas for Belarus until the end of the year is set at $127 per cubic meter, although Minsk had insisted on a reduction.
