Freight Volumes Increased in Armenia

Official reports indicate that freight volumes in Armenia have increased by 3.5 percent. During the first ten months of this year, railway freight transport has risen by 3.9 percent, primarily due to domestic transport. According to the Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper, the volume of domestic railway freight transport has grown by 14 percent.

There has also been a 3.7 percent increase in the automotive freight transport sector. However, when observed in terms of their purpose, there has been a 3.7 percent decrease in exports, whereas imports have risen by 1.7 percent.

The volume of air freight transport constitutes a very small portion of the overall figures, yet even within this minor segment, a decline has been recorded, with exports down by 14.5 percent and imports by 27.3 percent.

Particular attention should be given to the volumes of 'Main Pipeline Transport'. In this case, the increase was recorded at 1.7 percent. Furthermore, regarding this type of transport, official statistics do not distinguish between exports and imports, as it generally refers solely to imports, specifically of one type of product: gas. Therefore, we can note that gas imports to Armenia have increased, albeit slightly, during the first ten months of this year compared to the same period last year.
