Lieutenant Colonel Martirosyan Rescued a Group of Soldiers from Encirclement but Did Not Manage to Escape Himself

During the second Artsakh war unleashed by Azerbaijan, Lieutenant Colonel Artak Martirosyan was also killed. He was 45 years old. This information is reported by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia on their Facebook page.

“Since May of this year, Lieutenant Colonel Martirosyan served in the military police of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. Prior to that, he served for many years in the peacekeeping battalion of the Armenian Armed Forces and from May 2018 to 2020 in the civil protection department of the emergency situations ministry's rescue service.

With the initiative and active participation of Artak Martirosyan, the shooting range of the State Academy of Crisis Management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was equipped, where not only the civil protection service members underwent firearms training, but also students of the academy.

Artak Martirosyan went to the front lines on the first days of the war, in the Hadrut-Fizuli area. Friends recount that when news came that a group of our conscripted soldiers was encircled, the lieutenant colonel acted without hesitation, successfully extracting those trapped from the dangerous zone, but he did not manage to escape himself, as the Turkish strike drone moves faster than a human.

Throughout his lengthy service, Artak Martirosyan was awarded medals and commendations including those from the NATO Secretary General, 'Combat Service', 'Andranik Ozanyan', and others,” the ministry's Facebook post stated.
