Nikol Pashinyan Tops List of Year's Unsuccessful Figures: 'Interfax'

The Ukrainian master's international relations, political scientist, and analyst Anton Rovensky has presented a list of political figures who stood out in 2020 for their victories and rises, as well as their defeats and downturns, published by the Interfax agency.

According to the expert, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan leads the list of successful figures. 'In 2020, the Turkish President achieved success in several foreign policy 'chessboards' – including Libya, Syria, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Caucasus. Under Erdoğan, Turkey has become one of the most active geopolitical players. At the same time, the Turkish leader's ambitions are not limited to the aforementioned regions but rather cover a much broader territory,' the publication states.

Among the successful figures are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, newly elected U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the acting President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, newly elected Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Bolivian President Luis Arce.

The list of unsuccessful figures opens with Nikol Pashinyan. 'The defeat of Armenia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh in the military conflict with Azerbaijan has plunged official Yerevan into a severe internal crisis. As a result, Pashinyan's removal from power is not a matter of principle but a matter of time. It is likely that Pashinyan may have to go into political exile to escape criminal prosecution,' the author notes.

The list of unsuccessful figures also includes former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Libyan leader Khalifa Haftar, who is subject to the Libyan National Army.
