The airbase is located almost in the center of Azerbaijan, about 5 km south of the city of Kurdamir. The distance from the former borders of Artsakh is approximately 100 km.
At the beginning of the war, the Azerbaijani Air Force had 39 Su-25 attack aircraft in its arsenal. At least 4 of these aircraft are based in Nakhchivan, while the permanent location of the remaining 35 is Kurdamir Airbase. In addition to the Su-25s, the airbase is also armed with more than 20 L-39 training fighters, as well as Mi-8/Mi-17 type helicopters.
