Lachin Handoff to Adversary Imminent: Uncertainty Remains in Berdzor

With just hours remaining until the deadline for handing over the Lachin region to Azerbaijan, as established by the trilateral statement signed on November 9, there remains no clear official information about the fate of the city of Berdzor.

"Everything will be clarified in these two days, there are minor technical issues for which there cannot be a clear answer regarding the civilian population," Mushegh Alaverdyan, the acting head of the Kashatagh administrative district, told NEWS.am.

Residents of Berdzor have been hurriedly packing their belongings and leaving the city in recent days because they do not know who will be in control of it starting December 1. There are discussions among the residents that the governance of Berdzor city may pass to newly appointed Azerbaijani municipal leaders. However, there has yet to be any official announcement regarding the future of Berdzor.
