Consultation Held by Pashinyan with Heads and Representatives of Law Enforcement System

Consultation took place at the initiative of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with the participation of heads and representatives of the law enforcement system.

Notably, the meeting was attended by the Director of the National Security Service Armen Abazyan, Chief of Police Vahe Ghazaryan, Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan, Chairman of the National Assembly's Permanent Commission on State-Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan, Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, Head of the Special Investigative Service Sasun Khachatryan, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Hayk Grigoryan, members of the Supreme Judicial Council, candidate for Chairman of the Court of Cassation Lilith Tadevosyan, President of the Court of Appeals Hovsep Bedeyan, President of the Yerevan City Court Arthur Mkrtchyan, and other officials.

Pashinyan noted that there is an increasing public demand for the state bodies and institutions of the country to operate clearly in the current situation. "In this case, we are especially talking about the law enforcement system and the protection of law and order. During our discussion today, I would like us to exchange thoughts and share assessments on how adequately the institutions aimed at ensuring law and order are functioning today and what our evaluation is, including from the perspective of cooperation and ensuring legality.

"I want to speak about a specific example. You know that on the night of November 10 of this year, events occurred, which in essence included an attack against the President of the National Assembly. Currently, charges have been brought against 50 individuals related to these cases, and a motion has been submitted to the court to choose detention as a measure of restraint for 42 of them. Among these motions, 20 have been rejected, 18 have been accepted, and in the case of the attack against the Speaker of the National Assembly, 2 individuals have been detained, while the detention of another person has been rejected. If I stated this statistic correctly, the main question is what our evaluation is regarding whether this response is adequate to what has happened. If we consider it adequate, let us acknowledge it; if we do not consider it adequate, let us understand what the problem is and why we have this situation," said Nikol Pashinyan.

Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan and Head of the Investigation Department of the NSS Artur Poghosyan presented the progress of legal processes related to the events of the night of November 10, the results of investigations and inquiries conducted.

In this context, a substantive discussion took place regarding the proceedings of the initiated criminal cases, the detection of individuals involved in acts containing criminal elements, and the functioning of the judicial system. Various observations and opinions were presented.

Summarizing the consultation, Pashinyan emphasized that as a result of the activities of the law enforcement system, every citizen in Armenia, regardless of their position, should feel fully protected, and the activities of the law enforcement system should be maximally aimed at solving this issue. In this regard, Pashinyan highlighted the importance of ensuring effective and close cooperation among the bodies of the law enforcement system.
