If Scud Missiles Hit Their Targets: The Unscathed Ganja Airport
Razm.info continues to present the strategic infrastructure in Azerbaijan that the Iskander missiles did not hit. “Today, all directions of the warlike neighbor's territory, up to the most important infrastructures, are directed towards a state-of-the-art powerful strike force. And today, the supreme commander of the Armenian armed forces will not blink an eye when it comes to issuing an order for a volley of Iskanders if necessary. This is well known in the neighboring country,” stated Serzh Sargsyan on March 25, 2017.
THREAT #4: THE UNSCATHEED GANJA AIRPORT
On October 4, 2020, the spokesperson for the President of Artsakh, Vahram Poghosyan, announced that “the Ganja military airport has disappeared into thin air.” The videos that surfaced on the internet during that and the following days led to the assumption that the strikes were delivered by Scud missiles. It became clear that the airport had not sustained significant damage.
Razm.info will further address the issues arising from the use of Scud missiles, but for now, let’s discuss the Ganja International Airport.
The airport is located in the northwestern part of the city. Initially, during the Soviet era, it served dual purposes. For an extended period, it was used exclusively for civilian purposes, but recently it began to be used again for both civilian and military purposes. Specifically, with the start of the Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises, Turkish F-16 fighter jets were stationed here. After the missile strike from Artsakh, those fighters were relocated to another airport.
Turkish F-16 Fighters at Ganja International Airport: October 3
If the Scud missiles had hit their targets, the airport, although it would not have disappeared into thin air, the destruction of the F-16s would significantly ease our air defense problem. It’s worth noting that these F-16s were from the Turkish 151st and 152nd squadrons, which specialize in suppressing air defenses.
However, the issue is that the factory probability deviation of Scud missiles is 450 meters. Given this condition, it is impossible to expect guaranteed destruction of the airport with just a few missiles. Meanwhile, in the case of Iskanders, the probable deviation does not exceed several dozen meters, and in some cases even just a few meters.
