Citizens of Armenia Among the Missing from Goris-Shushi Road, Says Ombudsman of Artsakh
The Ombudsman of Artsakh condemns the inhumane treatment of forcibly missing persons by the Azerbaijani side. The Ombudsman’s office has issued a statement regarding the disappearance of citizens near Shushi on the Goris-Shushi highway on November 11.
The statement notes that ten missing citizens are from the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia. A video published on Azerbaijani social media proves that they are under Azerbaijani control.
As a result of the Ombudsman’s investigations, the identities of all forcibly disappeared civilians have been determined. Their information has been sent to the International Committee of the Red Cross and relevant state authorities.
“The Ombudsman strictly condemns the fact of forced disappearance of these individuals, as well as the inhumane treatment evidenced by the published video. The Azerbaijani side continues to exhibit behavior towards Armenian military captives and civilians that contravenes international humanitarian law, which must be adequately condemned and prevented by the international community,” the statement reads.
The Ombudsman of Artsakh will continue to work with national and international bodies to ensure the protection and return of Armenian individuals under Azerbaijani control.
