Agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh Reached in One Day: Every Line Was a Struggle, Says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised the role of the United States and France in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. As reported by RIA Novosti, he also addressed the political situation in Armenia following the trilateral statement on the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Security forces cannot allow society to be divided from within," he stated.

Speaking about the number of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, he noted that a sufficient number of peacekeepers have been deployed, and that an increase in their numbers is possible only with the agreement of the parties involved.

The Russian president revealed that the agreement on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue was formulated in one day, adding that there was a struggle over every line and every comma.

Commenting on the CSTO's intervention, Putin pointed out that according to that agreement, Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan, and the CSTO could not intervene as no one had attacked Armenia.
