Iran's Geographic Borders Have Not Changed, Says Foreign Ministry Representative

Iran's northwestern borders have not changed, according to a representative from the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Mehr news agency reports that they addressed several unfounded statements made by media regarding changes to the region's map following the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis.

“Last week, we encountered a number of baseless claims by the media about the possibility of a change in the region's map. In this regard, several fake maps have been published. The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any permanent resolution to the crisis and has sought to resolve it peacefully over the last three decades. Iran supports any action that contributes to this process,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh, affirming that no changes have been made to the map.

“We hope that there will no longer be takfirists or terrorist groups in the Nagorno-Karabakh region,” he added, noting that a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis serves the interests of the entire region.

Discussing Iran's role in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the deployment of Turkish peacekeepers in the region, he stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has played a strategic role and will continue to play a role in all events in the region. The only permanent solution to this conflict is the respect for the sovereignty and borders of the countries involved, and we welcome everything that contributes to that.”
