First a Tour, Then a Meeting: Artsakh Ombudsman Hosts Caroline Cox and Armenian Ombudsman

The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, received a delegation led by Baroness Caroline Cox, a member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, on November 13. The delegation arrived in Artsakh alongside the Armenian Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman presented the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan from September 27 to November 9, along with the results of the fact-finding mission conducted during the Azerbaijani aggression. He noted that during the war, the Human Rights Defender published two interim reports on Azerbaijani atrocities, three closed reports concerning the inhumane treatment of Armenian prisoners of war and soldiers' bodies, one report on the targeting of the Holy Savior Church in Shushi, one report on violations of children's rights, and one joint report with the Armenian Human Rights Defender on the use of chemical weapons.

The documented facts were more than sufficient for international human rights organizations and the global community to take appropriate measures and condemn Azerbaijan's criminal actions properly.

In turn, Baroness Caroline Cox emphasized that she has consistently raised the issue of the rights of the people of Artsakh on international platforms for many years and, during the war, called on relevant organizations to take practical measures to ensure the protection of Artsakh people's rights. The Baroness highlighted her support for the just struggle of the Artsakh people for their rights and freedoms, insisting that the international community must pay adequate attention to the existing needs and challenges.

Responding to the guests' questions, Artak Beglaryan addressed the humanitarian disaster created in Artsakh and pointed out the directions of international support vital for overcoming the current severe situation.

After the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by the Ombudsman, visited several civilian buildings destroyed as a result of Azerbaijani aggression.
