Moscow and Ankara Interested in Maintaining Regional Stability, Peskov Says
Turkey has adopted a consistent stance in favor of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, in an interview with RT, discussing Turkey's role in Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh.
According to him, Turkey has endorsed a forceful scenario for resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “Our positions on this issue differ. However, this does not prevent us from continuing close cooperation at all levels, including the highest,” he noted, recalling that the presidents of Russia and Turkey are in constant contact despite certain disagreements.
Peskov pointed out that in many areas, Russian and Turkish interests coincide: “Moscow and Ankara are interested in maintaining regional stability. We share mutual interests in trade, economic, and investment sectors. Our cooperation responds to the interests of both Moscow and Ankara.”
Returning to Turkey's role in the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Peskov stated that in this case, “Turkey is mistaken in thinking that peace can be achieved through forceful methods.”
Speaking about communications in the conflict resolution process, Peskov mentioned that as a result of these communications, an agreement was reached on the establishment of a monitoring center in the territory of Azerbaijan, “which is not considered part of Nagorno-Karabakh.” He added, “The center will coordinate actions related to monitoring the ceasefire regime, which is already being maintained by Russian peacekeepers ‘on the ground’.”
