Active Efforts Underway to Create Mechanisms for the Exchange of Persons and Bodies Held in Captivity, According to the Ministry of Defense
Following the truce agreement reached on September 27 between the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan to cease hostilities in Artsakh, and the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces to monitor the ceasefire regime in the region, opportunities have arisen for clarifying the fate of military personnel and civilians who were captured or whose whereabouts remain unknown during the conflict, as well as for the exchange of bodies.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense. The Ministry is prepared to provide comprehensive support to the Russian peacekeeping contingent during their mission. Active efforts are already underway with the leadership of the peacekeeping mission and representatives of the ICRC to establish practical mechanisms for the exchange of individuals in captivity and bodies in a timely manner.
The Military Personnel Insurance Fund has initiated compensation payments in accordance with established procedures for families of servicemen injured or killed after September 27. Efforts are also being made to develop legislative initiatives aimed at simplifying the existing legislative framework regarding missing persons, as well as the current procedures for providing compensation to injured or deceased servicemen and shortening the timeline for compensation disbursement.
