1836 New Coronavirus Cases and 20 Deaths Registered in Armenia, Including a Teenager

As of October 21, 11:00 AM, a total of 68,530 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Armenia, of which 49,219 have recovered and 1,121 have resulted in death. Currently, 17,869 patients are undergoing treatment for the coronavirus. In total, 357,104 tests have been conducted.

Yesterday, 4,340 tests were performed, resulting in 1,836 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus. There were 485 recoveries reported.

Regarding the fatalities, the Ministry of Health reports that the patients were aged 73 (male), 52 (male), 81 (male), 79 (female), 62 (female), 81 (female), 67 (female), 75 (female), 77 (female), 49 (female), 60 (female), 74 (female), 80 (female), 66 (male), 79 (male), 66 (female), 83 (female), 83 (female), 85 (female), and a 16-year-old girl. All had underlying chronic conditions.

It is noteworthy that this marks the first recorded death of a child from the coronavirus in Armenia since the onset of the pandemic. The 16-year-old child had severe underlying health issues, specifically a two-year-old postoperative condition following partial removal of a malignant brain tumor (astrocytoma), had been in a vegetative state (not speaking, walking, sitting, or communicating), and subsequently contracted COVID-19, which contributed to her demise. The loss is tragic. Medical professionals undertook all possible and necessary measures, but unfortunately, they could not save the child's life.

The previous day, three death cases were recorded where patients had contracted the coronavirus, but their deaths were attributed to other underlying health conditions. The total number of such cases is 321.
