ECHR Rules to Obligate Azerbaijan to Ensure the Life Integrity of Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan
Human rights defender and former Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan has reported that an urgent application was submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on behalf of two servicemen who were captured two days ago. The Court has decided to request information from the Azerbaijani government, setting a deadline of October 22, 2020.
Considering the grave violations of humanitarian law recorded by Azerbaijan, another application was submitted to the European Court, presenting evidence of war crimes against prisoners of war involving Azerbaijani armed forces.
Recently, the Court satisfied the Armenian applicants' request, obligating the Azerbaijani government to ensure the life integrity and health rights of Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan. At the same time, the Court has demanded that Azerbaijan provide information about their conditions and health status by October 22, 2020.
The interests of the mentioned servicemen at the European Court of Human Rights are represented by attorney Siranush Sahakyan and human rights defender Artak Zeynalyan.
