Russian-Armenian Relations Based on Nearly 200 Agreements: Russian Foreign Ministry Statement
The Russian Foreign Ministry has released a detailed statement regarding the friendly relations between Armenia and Russia, in anticipation of Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan's official visit to Moscow from October 11-13. The statement notes that the negotiations at the Russian Foreign Ministry are set to cover the scope of bilateral cooperation, as well as discussions related to the OSCE, CSTO, and CIS foreign policy cooperation. All matters concerning coordination of positions in various international forums, including the OSCE, UN, Council of Europe, and CSTO, will also be addressed.
Furthermore, there will be an exchange of views on regional and international issues. The implementation of the program of consultations between the Russian and Armenian Foreign Ministries for 2020-2021 will also be reviewed. It is emphasized that one of the main topics of discussion will be the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In the context of the agreements reached during the tripartite meeting of the foreign ministries of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in Moscow on October 9-10, 2020, dialogues aimed at de-escalating tensions in the conflict zone and creating the necessary conditions for the resumption of substantive negotiations will continue, including through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The Russian Foreign Ministry highlighted that the upcoming visit represents the logical continuation of a rich political dialogue between Russia and Armenia, directed towards further close cooperation in political, trade-economic, humanitarian, and other fields. A political coordination on major regional and global issues has been established between Moscow and Yerevan within universal and specialized international organizations such as the UN and OSCE.
It is noted that the relations between the two countries are based on principles enshrined in several treaties, including the Treaty of Friendship and about 200 other agreements. The practical implementation of these documents has allowed for a completely new nature of bilateral cooperation, making them balanced and aimed at development.
