Who Will Be the President of the Supreme Court? A Decision Has Been Made in the Judicial System

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" writes: "The appointment of Ervand Khundkaryan as a member of the Constitutional Court has not calmed the tensions surrounding the position of President of the Supreme Court. The judicial system is now determining who should be elected for this role, and challenges abound.

The issue arises from Article 135 of the Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia, which states that 'The Judicial Department must compile and submit to the Supreme Judicial Council a list of all judges of the Supreme Court who have at least three years of judicial experience in that court, have no disciplinary penalties, have not served as the President of the Supreme Court, and are not members of the Supreme Judicial Council.'

Consequently, Stepan Mikaelyan, who became a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, and Edgar Sedrakyan, who lacks the required experience of three years in that court, have been excluded from this process.

As a result, the choice may likely fall on Gor Hakobyan, although Lilit Tadevosyan, the daughter of the well-known prosecutor Zelim, who introduced Ervand Khundkaryan as a candidate for the Constitutional Court in parliament, is still unwilling to step out of the race. Time will reveal whose candidacy will prevail.

It should be noted that it has already been decided that the process will be personally coordinated by Supreme Judicial Council President Ruben Vardazaryan, who will come to parliament to present their candidate.
