Potato Tragedy: Local Market as Hope, Prices Double Cheaper - "Zhamanak"
According to the newspaper "Zhamanak", potato farmers in the Shirak, Lori, and Gegharkunik regions are in a rather difficult situation. This year, the wholesale price of potatoes is twice as cheap compared to last year, ranging between 30-50 drams, which not only fails to secure any income but does not even cover incurred expenses, depriving farmers of minimal means of livelihood.
In previous years, potatoes were also exported from Armenia to neighboring Georgia, whereas this year the only hope lies in the local market, which cannot absorb such volumes. Farmers understand that it is pointless to rely on state support, as the government did not provide tangible assistance even to communities affected by spring hailstorms.
