More than 10,000 Heads of 'Edelbay' and 'Kalmyk' Sheep Breeds Will Soon Be in Artsakh: President
During pre-election meetings, I have repeatedly stated that we will pay great attention to the development of agriculture, particularly in livestock breeding. This was written by the President of the Republic of Artsakh, Araik Harutyunyan, on his Facebook page.
He specifically noted, “According to experts, this has great potential in Artsakh, and the number of livestock can exceed five hundred thousand. For comparison, I note that currently there are only seventy thousand sheep in the entire republic, and the existing livestock significantly lags behind leading breeds in terms of productivity.”
“The statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today, that the export of live sheep and goats from Armenia increased by 256 percent in the period from January to July 2020 compared to the same period last year, once again confirms the great potential and demand in this sector.
In this regard, I would like to emphasize that the first important step has been taken in this direction in Artsakh, and more than ten thousand heads of 'Edelbay' and 'Kalmyk' sheep breeds will soon be in the Republic. According to the announcement, they will be given to all those farmers who meet the minimum conditions set by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative has been launched. In the coming five years, high-quality breeding sheep will be continuously imported with state funds. Our overall success will depend on the literate and compassionate approach of each citizen willing to benefit from this program. As a result, both the citizens and the state will benefit.
