Jhoghovurd: Who Will Be Elected as President of the Constitutional Court? Surprises Are Not Excluded

The Constitutional Court already has three new judges. The National Assembly elected all three candidates: Yervand Khundkaryan, Edgar Shatiryan, and Arthur Vagharshyan. Article 5 of the Law on the Constitutional Court states that newly elected judges assume their position immediately after taking the oath. However, yesterday in Parliament, the newly elected members did not take the oath, as mentioned by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, due to incompatibility with their work for two of them.

After taking the oath, all members of the Constitutional Court will gather and elect the President of the Constitutional Court among themselves. Article 19 of the Law on the Constitutional Court stipulates that the President can be elected from among the judges who receive two-thirds of the votes of the total number of judges. If only one candidate is nominated, they are elected by the majority of the votes of the total number of judges.
