Hraparak: "It Turns Out Miracles Happen" – What Changed Overnight
Hraparak newspaper reports: “Yesterday, the ‘My Step’ faction demonstrated an unprecedented ‘principled stance’ in parliament, as Prime Minister Pashinyan might say. Just a day earlier, they had been forcefully criticizing the nomination of Arthur Vagharchyan, proposed by the president for the Constitutional Court judge position, but ultimately voted for him with an overwhelming 86 votes in favor. A year ago, revolutionaries who rejected Vagharchyan were outraged during the discussions on his candidacy, questioning why a rejected candidate was being proposed again and why parliamentary institutions were being disrespected.
What changed overnight, and why did the My Step faction almost unanimously choose Vagharchyan? “It was due to the Anti-Corruption Commission’s conclusions about the candidates,” our source stated. “How could we select the disgraced Khundkaryan and reject Vagharchyan, who was given a positive conclusion regarding his integrity by the commission? That wouldn’t be fair.”
Last night, after receiving a call from ‘above,’ the faction initiated discussions in their general ‘chat group’ on voting for Vagharchyan. They then decided to convene a faction meeting early in the morning. During the meeting, despite some opposing voices, it became clear that some were deeply ‘impressed’ by the candidate’s sincerity and had not slept all night thinking about rejecting him. Those who opposed were the ones who had raised critical questions during the discussions.
Vagharchyan himself, surprised after the vote, admitted in our conversation: “It turns out miracles happen.” As for what he personally did to facilitate this shift, he assured us: “Nothing, you should ask the MPs why they changed their minds.”
