Former Yerevan State University Rector Aram Simonian Charged

Former Yerevan State University (YSU) rector Aram Simonian has been charged, according to reports from Haykakan Zhamanak.
He is accused under the first part of the third section of Article 179 of the RA Criminal Code concerning embezzlement or misappropriation. A travel restriction to prevent him from leaving the country has been imposed as a precautionary measure.
This information has been confirmed in a conversation with the Investigative Committee of Armenia, although no further details have been provided at this time.
It remains unclear whether the alleged irregularities are related to his professional activities. It is noteworthy that he held the position of YSU rector for over ten years.
