Food in Armenian School Canteens to Be Temporarily Replaced with Dry Rations
Food in Armenian school canteens will be temporarily replaced with dry rations. This was announced by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan during the governmental hour in the National Assembly.
He specifically noted that a program is being implemented in various provinces of the republic to provide free school meals to students in elementary grades 1-4. "In schools, food is prepared from local products—grains, vegetables, and meat. The ministry is implementing the program in six regions, while the World Food Programme (WFP) is working in four others. However, this program is not being carried out in Yerevan. We have now temporarily decided to replace meals with dry rations to minimize the risk of virus transmission in schools," the minister added.
It is noteworthy that it was previously announced that school canteens would not be operational.
