I Have Evidence That the Opposition Provided Misleading Information to the Public, Which Has More Harmed Pandemic Overcoming: L. Nazaryan to Marukyan

Today, the National Assembly is discussing the effectiveness of the measures taken by the Armenian government and the commandant's office to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as well as to mitigate or eliminate the consequences of the pandemic, and to determine the number of members of the investigative committee studying the effectiveness and legality of the restrictions on human rights and fundamental freedoms during the state of emergency.

The draft was presented by Edmond Marukyan, the head of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction. "The initiators propose that the investigative committee have 12 members: 7 members from 'My Step', 3 members from the 'Prosperous Armenia' party, and 2 from the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction," he said.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan asked Edmond Marukyan whether the committee would discuss the statements and actions of the opposition, which have been contradictory, misleading, aimed at appearing in one-day news and gaining favor from various inconvenient people. "Will the committee consider the behavior of the opposition and its harmful influence on overcoming the pandemic? I have evidence that the opposition has provided such contradictory and misleading information to the public that it has harmed the overcoming of the pandemic even more," she asked.

Edmond Marukyan stated that this question is not related to the decision, although he responded by noting that there is distorted information in the question. "The committee will have 7 members from your faction, and any issue you propose will be discussed if it relates to the effectiveness of the measures taken by the government and the commandant's office to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as well as the results and legality of the restrictions on human rights and fundamental freedoms during the state of emergency. It is up to you what issues you bring to the agenda, and we will discuss them," he said.

Edmond Marukyan noted that when speaking of the opposition, it is necessary to specify which force is meant, as all political entities, except for 'My Step', are in opposition.
