Diaspora Armenian Applicants Allowed Entry to Armenia Without 14-Day Quarantine Requirement
In the 2020-2021 academic year, 670 diaspora Armenians from 29 countries applied to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia to study at higher educational institutions, among whom about 210 are citizens of Georgia. Some of the applicants are participating in the competition for state-funded places in bachelor's degree programs designated for diaspora Armenians, which provide full reimbursement of tuition fees (free of charge) for on-site education in fields considered priority for the diaspora, such as Armenian studies, education, and the arts.
By the decree of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, a change has been made to the deadlines for accepting documents from foreigners and diaspora Armenians for the 2020-2021 academic year in Armenian higher educational institutions (paid education). Specifically, the deadline for submitting documents for admission to paid on-site bachelor's and continuous and integrated educational programs is set until October 15, 2020, inclusive.
Entry Permission for Diaspora Armenian Students
In collaboration with the commandant's office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, and the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport has carried out relevant work to ensure the entry of Georgian citizens of Armenian descent into the territory of Armenia without the application of the 14-day quarantine requirement. An agreement has been reached with the Georgian authorities regarding the uninterrupted movement of the aforementioned citizens and the organization of their entry at the border crossing point. For this purpose, Georgian citizens who have obtained permission to enter the territory of Armenia must contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia or the consular section of the Embassy of Georgia in Armenia for details regarding the point of movement and timing.
Unified Examinations
Similar efforts were also made to ensure the entry of 84 diaspora Armenians who are foreign citizens to participate in the entrance exams for the 2020-2021 academic year in Armenian higher educational institutions. As of July 1, 2020, 84 diaspora Armenians (69 from Georgia, 14 from the Russian Federation, and 1 from the USA) submitted online applications to participate in the diploma examinations, along with 11 Armenian citizens residing outside Armenia. With the permitted approval of the commandant, these applicants entered Armenia without restrictions starting from June 25, 2020, to attend the entrance exams in the first ten-day period of July. As a result, 17 citizens of Georgia who participated in the unified examinations were admitted to higher educational institutions in Armenia.
