Deadline for Commercial Fishing Applications for Sig in Lake Sevan is September 16
The deadline for submitting applications for commercial fishing of sig in Lake Sevan is September 16. This information was provided by the Ministry of Environment.
On September 18, a reformed regulation for experimental commercial fishing of sig in Lake Sevan will be implemented. The allotted 300 tons for experimental commercial fishing of sig has not been fully utilized at this moment.
The Ministry of Environment urges all citizens who engage in commercial fishing of sig in Lake Sevan to submit their applications to the 'Sevan' National Park SNCO by September 16, and then enter into contracts with the Ministry of Environment to conduct fishing legally.
From the moment the regulation comes into effect on September 18, any citizen entering Lake Sevan to conduct commercial fishing without a signed contract with the Ministry of Environment will face administrative penalties. Caught fish will be confiscated in accordance with established laws.
Additionally, the experimental commercial fishing of sig in Lake Sevan will be monitored and controlled by a newly formed special surveillance team, which will carry out round-the-clock patrols along the shoreline and water, under the auspices of the Police, the Inspection Body for Environmental Protection and Subsoil Use, and the 'Sevan' National Park SNCO.
It is also noteworthy that according to the amendments made to the project:
- Commercial fishing in Lake Sevan will also be permitted in the area of Little Sevan.
- Eight additional areas will be added to the previously approved 17 areas. A total of 25 areas will be controlled by 'Sevan' National Park in the entire basin of Lake Sevan.
- The minimum catch weight for sig species shall be set at 400 grams instead of the previous 500 grams.
- The maximum catch limit for sig in Lake Sevan has also been revised. The newly approved limit is set at 300 tons.
The deadline for the experimental fishing period is set until November 30 of this year, inclusive.
