Details on the Reopening of Schools: Statement from the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education
WRed
The former press secretary of the Minister of Education, Angela Kzhdryan, wrote on her Facebook page: "Schools in Armenia are reopening. Regarding the reopening of schools, the WHO European Regional Office held a meeting with senior representatives from the health and education sectors, which resulted in the identification of the following points:
- Despite the fact that children can contract and transmit #Covid19, the infection mostly progresses mildly or asymptomatically in them, while the interruption of the educational process negatively impacts them not only educationally but also from a health perspective, affecting their mental health and social development.
- When reopening schools, it is important to adhere to the following rules:
- ✔️ The reality created by Covid-19 necessitates providing means for hand hygiene in schools, creating conditions to maintain physical distance, wearing masks, and staying at home if there are symptoms of illness.
- ✔️ Special policies and approaches are needed for teachers in risky areas and children with health issues.
- ✔️ Organizing distance learning may replace in-person education if there is a need to temporarily close schools again. This can serve as an alternative for teachers and children in risky areas and can supplement the lessons conducted in school if necessary.
