1280 Teachers and 2426 Students to Begin Remote Learning This Year

The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has announced that 1280 teachers from the high-risk group for severe COVID-19 will have the option to organize their work remotely, subject to certain conditions.

The distribution of teachers by region is as follows: Yerevan - 419, Gegharkunik - 126, Kotayk - 111, Shirak - 106, Tavush - 101, Syunik - 99, Aragatsotn - 96, Ararat - 94, Armavir - 67, Lori - 50, Vayots Dzor - 11. In terms of subjects, the numbers are: mathematics teachers - 160, Armenian language and literature - 145, Russian language - 124, while the number of teachers for other subjects is below 100. In this group, there are 202 primary school teachers.

For teachers who do not report to work, schools may engage substitute teachers for the resulting vacant hours.

Additionally, remote learning will be organized in a centralized format for 2426 students, following the regulations for distance education in general educational institutions. The regional distribution of these students is: Yerevan - 1207, Shirak - 211, Ararat - 188, Kotayk - 175, Lori - 172, Gegharkunik - 142, Armavir - 110, Aragatsotn - 78, Syunik - 63, Tavush - 47, Vayots Dzor - 33 students. The distribution by grade is as follows: 1st - 96, 2nd - 230, 3rd - 258, 4th - 262, 5th - 257, 6th - 290, 7th - 240, 8th - 271, 9th - 209, 10th - 107, 11th - 103, 12th - 103 students.

It is important to note that according to the rules for the functioning of educational institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic, a student may not attend school if there is a request from a parent or legal representative, if the student has any of the disease risk factors defined by the Armenian Ministry of Health, if there are suspected or confirmed COVID-19 symptoms in the household, or if a family member is in the risk group for the disease as verified by a medical institution.

This year, a total of 397,607 students are expected to attend general educational schools in Armenia, with 38,186 students enrolled in the first grade.
