Arsen Julfalakyan: Third Day Observing Discussions on Resigning My Mandate

It is the third day that I patiently and with interest follow various posts, analyses, discussions, and assessments regarding the resignation of my parliamentary mandate. Of course, sometimes, there are quite mature and balanced remarks, even if they do not correspond to reality. Unfortunately, the number of such observations is very limited.

This was stated by Olympic champion Arsen Julfalakyan on Facebook.

“However, there is no shortage of discussions at a household level... And the most 'interesting' part of this issue is that such reasoning is also coming from people who, at first glance, seem educated, knowledgeable, socially responsible, and presumably aware of the weight of public discourse. Nevertheless... Sadly, it has long been normal for everyone to talk about everything in our society, and often these unsubstantiated and contentless texts become the subject of the public agenda and discussions, while the reality lies elsewhere, and the issue was about something different...

Following certain circles’ observations about me, it is clearly visible that many, besides the reason I have cited for resigning my mandate, are trying to find much more intriguing reasons, referring to conspiracy theories, careerism, or some mythical political causes that at least bring a smile.

This might have been the reason I decided to provide some clarifications around the discussed topic with a few episodes, and you can continue your 'high-content' discussions with a new pace after hearing them...

- Dear ones, I am well aware of 'bookish parliamentarism' and do not need lessons on the struggle. The question is that the struggle does not always have to be conducted in front of cameras or only on public platforms, as the important thing is the result of the struggle, not the form of its implementation or the degree of public visibility.

- I have never wanted a position and do not want one; I have dedicated myself to my work because I believed in the possibility of real reforms in the fields of sports and education. This might also include the 'dream of becoming a deputy minister,' which is, of course, absurd and laughable... (if you are aware of the proposals I have from international organizations, you will understand what I mean)

- Before exploiting the topic of the Olympic Games, please do a bit of mental gymnastics and try to check the deadlines, so this version at least becomes a little more realistic...

- The most recent version: ‘Candidate for the Mayor of Gyumri…’ I somewhat understand who benefits from turning the arrows on me in this matter: Do not create a candidate for yourselves out of me; be interested in the real candidates.

- I have always been and will be proud of my profession as an athlete (I realize that many are simply tortured by those achievements that seem inaccessible to them), but when you try to link my presence in the legislature solely to my sports achievements, think a little, read my biography.

- Paradox: until recently, almost the same circles ‘accused’ me of not resigning my mandate... now they are ‘accusing’ me of resigning it... indeed, the situation is ambiguous and unclear...

Be well; we will talk more,” Julfalakyan writes.
