LHK to Present Guarantee for Malakyan Brothers, Marukyan Says
Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" parliamentary faction, wrote on his Facebook page:
“Dear citizens, as reported by the RA Investigative Committee on August 31, a criminal case was opened in the Central Police Department of Armenia in connection with the incident that occurred in Cascade on August 30, under Article 316 (violence against a representative of the authorities) and Article 258 (hooliganism) of the RA Criminal Code.
Four police officers have been recognized as victims in this case. However, the lawyer of the detained football players Edgar and Gorr Malakyan, from the "Ararat" and "Pyunik" football clubs, claims that the incident occurred in a completely different way, and the circulated information is highly subjective, unilateral, incomplete, and exaggerated, which is evidenced by the publication of photos of the Malakyan brothers.
According to the lawyer, the course of the criminal case will show who has committed violence against whom, and currently, the presumption of innocence for the Malakyan brothers is being violated, while also dealing a significant blow to the Armenian national team and Armenian football in general.
Today marks the end of the 72-hour detention period for the Malakyan brothers, and if the investigative body decides to apply to the court for the detention of the mentioned football players, we state that the members of the "Enlightened Armenia" parliamentary faction are ready to present a guarantee as an alternative to the detention measure for the Malakyan brothers.”
