‘Zhoghovourd’: Gas Prices in Armenia Increased by 3.9% in One Month

‘Zhoghovourd’ newspaper reports that in July of this year, compared to June, gas prices in Armenia increased by 3.9%, while diesel fuel rose by 3.6%. Currently, regular gasoline costs 340 AMD per liter at Armenian gas stations, while premium gasoline is priced at 360 AMD. In July, regular gas was sold for 300 AMD per liter.

‘Zhoghovourd’ contacted the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition of Armenia to inquire whether the increase in gas prices is justified. In response to our inquiry, the commission stated that they continuously monitor changes in the gasoline market, including price changes. Additionally, the Commission informed us that if any discrepancies are recorded, they will initiate administrative proceedings as per the law, and a clear assessment of the operators' activities will be provided.

It is worth mentioning that on July 2nd of this year, the government discussed the draft agreement on trade and economic cooperation in the field of oil supply between the governments of Armenia and Kazakhstan. Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan expressed hope that the import of cheaper fuel from Kazakhstan would create competition in the Armenian fuel market. However, the signed agreement needs to be ratified through domestic procedures before it becomes clear what volume of oil products Armenia intends to import from Kazakhstan. As they say, the decrease in gasoline prices is just over the horizon.
