What are the signs of methanol poisoning?
In recent days, cases of alcohol poisoning have been reported in the republic. There are victims, and unfortunately, some deaths as well. The probable source of poisoning is the consumption of non-factory produced alcohol and medical alcohol, according to the Ministry of Health.
To prevent unfortunate incidents, the Ministry of Health urges everyone to refrain from using alcoholic beverages of unknown origin and non-factory production.
Reminder: The symptoms of acute poisoning from ethyl alcohol include irritation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, and dizziness, confusion, diplopia, lack of concentration, imbalance, drowsiness, ataxia, coma, seizures, respiratory disturbances, decreased blood pressure, slow heart rate, reduced body temperature, and hypoglycemia.
In the case of methanol, depending on the amount of toxic substances, the symptoms of poisoning can appear from a few hours to 1-2 days. The main symptoms are dizziness and headache, nausea and vomiting, muscle, joint, and abdominal pain, mental clouding, drowsiness, photophobia, specific effects on vision that can lead to blindness, elevated levels of hemoglobin and erythrocytes in the blood, and the presence of proteins and hyaline casts in the urine.
In case any of the above symptoms appear, it is necessary to seek medical attention immediately and refrain from self-treatment.
