Threats Against Residents Resuming Work in Amulsar: Letter to Prime Minister and Police Chief

The 'Amulsar Gold' initiative group has sent a letter to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Police Chief Vahe Ghazaryan. The letter reads as follows:

'Dear Mr. Prime Minister and Mr. Police Chief, on behalf of the law-abiding, honest, and hardworking residents of the communities surrounding Amulsar and the 'Amulsar Gold' initiative group, we appeal to you demanding protection of the law. We do not know if you are aware or not, but for several days now, a group opposed to Amulsar has been making threats of physical retribution against those community residents who are set to resume their lawful work in the Amulsar area this week. For nearly three years, the residents of the community have been deprived of their right to work legally. An atmosphere of fear and lawlessness prevails in this area, and people do not feel protected in their own country.

We are witnessing the absence of law and double standards. Just days ago, when the guards of Lydian set up their cabins near the entrances, this was deemed illegal, and the cabins were removed. Meanwhile, those blocking the road have again set up their makeshift cabins on our community road, displaying a blatant disregard for the law. They are directly threatening numerous community residents who have applied to work in Amulsar, stating on live broadcasts that there will be bloodshed. After all, you said that there would be no violence and lawlessness in our country. What is the issue now, why have you not resolved this matter for two years and put an end to this illegality? If the state is unable to ensure our safety and rights as residents, where and from whom should Armenian citizens expect the law and protection? Which international bodies should community residents turn to if the Government and Police are unable to uphold the law and legality?'
