Submitting an Application to the Constitutional Court was a Political Message: Arman Abovyan

Earlier, it was reported that the Constitutional Court did not accept the application of the Prosperous Armenia faction's MPs and the independent MP Tigran Urikhanyan.

In an interview with ArmDaily.am, the secretary of the Prosperous Armenia faction, Arman Abovyan, stated that the Constitutional Court's decision was not a surprise for them. “We were aware of the issues related to the signatures of those 26-27 individuals. We anticipated that there could be such an outcome, and for us, submitting the application was a political message, a political act indicating that we do not agree with the processes surrounding the Constitutional Court, and our assessment was that they do not comply with the Constitution. Let me remind you that considering all these circumstances, we submitted a similar application to the Constitutional Court together with the Bright Armenia faction, where all constitutional norms were upheld. The new application, with new content and already sufficient signatures, is currently with the Constitutional Court. This was not a surprise for us; we knew well what should happen, it is a normal, natural political process.”

In response to the media's observation about what expectations they have from the second application, the MP noted that in his opinion, the Constitutional Court will accept the case. “Because all norms are upheld. As for the further processes, I cannot say how the proceedings will unfold and what decision will be made. For now, I will refrain from comments and not get ahead of myself.”

It should be noted that the Prosperous Armenia party applied to the Constitutional Court on July 26 regarding the draft amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. At that time, discussion arose that the signatures of 26 MPs might not be sufficient for the issue to be considered.
