Concerns Arise Over MoD's Project to Establish Territorial Defense Forces

Recently, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia has submitted draft laws for public discussion, proposing amendments to the existing laws on "Defense," "Local Self-Government," "Territorial Administration," and "Local Self-Government in the City of Yerevan." According to the proposal, the Ministry of Defense aims to incorporate territorial defense forces into the state's military security system.

While the initiative is broadly considered acceptable and commendable, it has been met with mixed reactions from various circles, including the "Yerkrapah" organization.

The primary concern relates to the fact that professional consultations were not conducted prior to presenting the matter for public discussion, implying that the perspective of the "Yerkrapah" organization was somewhat overlooked. According to our sources, the main apprehension and worry pertain to the leadership of the territorial defense forces, which is assigned to local government officials (deputies).

In response to these concerns, it has been stated that public discussions are precisely meant for everyone to express their viewpoints.
