Footballer Brothers Arrested on Suspicion of Violence Against Police and Hooliganism

On August 30, 2020, at 11:20 PM, a captain of the Armenian police submitted a report indicating that around 11:15 PM, responding to a communication, they went to "Cascade," where they noticed two young men who were pulling at two police officers. The mentioned two young men had been shouting profanities loudly for a prolonged period, and one of them had pulled away and torn off the epaulet of one of the police officers.

With the assistance of the special police forces, they were apprehended, and their identities were revealed; they are brothers and football players for the Armenian national team. It was also found that during the altercation, one of them had punched a police officer in the face, causing bodily harm.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated at the Central Division of the Armenian Police under Article 316 (Violence Against a Representative of Authority) and Article 258 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which has been forwarded to the Investigation Committee's Center and Norq-Masar District Investigation Division in Yerevan for further proceedings.

Four police officers have been recognized as victims in the case, several individuals have been interrogated, the clothes of the victims have been confiscated, and forensic examinations have been appointed. The footballer brothers have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
