Attempts to Transfer Drugs Prevented in 'Sevan' and 'Vanadzor' Penal Institutions

The employees of the correctional institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, continuing their consistent and vigilant fight against the infiltration of prohibited items and substances, as well as properly fulfilling their assigned duties and tasks, have once again prevented attempts to transfer banned items through smuggling, as reported by the public relations department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Specifically, on August 28 of this year, around 21:00, a report was received from the checkpoint of the Ministry of Justice’s 'Sevan' correctional facility indicating that a vehicle had been observed moving outside the wall in the middle of the watchtower. The staff of the correctional facility took appropriate measures, and an immediate inspection of the area was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a package secured with adhesive tape and a reflective fire extinguisher at the rear of one of the residential sections of the facility.

According to the separated quantities present in the package, there were substances resembling marijuana weighing 14.8, 9.1, and 3.9 grams, a mass of 0.3 grams with light pink granules, as well as 68.3 grams of white pills and tablets without markings.

An attempt to transfer prohibited items through smuggling was also prevented in the 'Vanadzor' correctional facility based on operational data received by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. On August 29, at approximately 01:40, an attempt was made from the outer side of a concealing wall of the fenced area towards a residential section. As a result of immediate measures taken by the facility’s employees, a package was discovered on top of the fence, secured with a heavy stone.

The package contained substances resembling marijuana, weighing 13.8 and 21.8 grams of greenish mass.

Chemical examinations are being conducted within the framework of the materials prepared.
