‘We Will Go to the End’: Tikhanovskaya Declares Protests in Belarus Will Not Die Down

The former opposition candidate for the presidency of Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, has announced that protests in the republic are not subsiding, assuring that supporters of the opposition are prepared to go to the end, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The protests are continuing, and they are moving in their own course. Of course, the wave may decrease somewhat during the week, but everything will return to its course on the weekends. The main reason is that people are no longer willing to accept the former president; they no longer trust him, and we will go until victory,” Tikhanovskaya stated in an interview on the Echo of Moscow radio station.

The figure also promised that the protests in the country would be peaceful. “Belarusians are peaceful citizens, and we will not cross that line under any circumstances. People want one thing: for Lukashenko to leave, and we will achieve this through peaceful protests and strikes,” she emphasized.

It is noteworthy that protests in Belarus have been ongoing since August 10, with citizens expressing their dissatisfaction over the results of the presidential elections held on August 9, in which the incumbent president was declared the winner with 80 percent of the votes. In the initial days of the protests, thousands of people were detained, hundreds were injured, and three demonstrators have died. Some sources report a total of five fatalities.
