Public Television Must Have Maximum Impartiality, Marukyan Says
Television companies that occupy the public multiplex are required to be impartial and provide equal platforms for all. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the head of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, during an interview in the #bRightTalk format.
Addressing the registered owners of media outlets and official spokespeople, Marukyan emphasized that they must maintain impartiality in the public sphere. “You know, the media, whose owners, on paper, and official spokespeople sharply criticize opposition figures in the public domain, then expect us to go to their air. This is an unreasonable expectation. These people demonstrate that they are not impartial. We know that they are not impartial, but at least they should not speak about this in the public domain. This is a very important professional characteristic issue,” noted Marukyan. He added that all those who play any role in media should refrain from expressing their political sympathies in the public sphere.
Marukyan also referred to the television companies occupying the public multiplex, stating that public television, which is funded by the taxes paid by our citizens, must have maximum impartiality. Yet, this requirement should also be applied to all other television companies that occupy the public multiplex. “We must demand impartiality not only from Public Television but also from all television companies that occupy the public multiplex,” concluded Marukyan.
